Licensed professional Restricted Barbers shampoo, cut hair, style, shave, cut beards and mustaches. They also give facial massages and hair and scalp treatments. Barbers usually work on men's hair, although many have both male and female customers. Similar to cosmetologists and barbers, restricted barbers can also provide a variety of health and wellness consultations. A successful licensed Restricted Barber creates an experience for the client that he or she will enjoy, keeps pace with the beauty and fashion industry and stand ready to meet the constantly changing skills vital to success.
About the Program
The Restricted Barbering Program is a 600 hour program that consists of academic (theory) and practical application with the exception of chemical services. Students are taught through class room lecture, demonstration and hands on training in a clinic setting, where they practice skills on mannequins and clients. Beginning students are taught the basics and are not allowed practice on clients until they have mastered the basics skills to move on to the next level. Students are tested at the end of each subject and are expected to pass with at least 80% test score.

Careers in Restricted Barbering
Restricted Barbers have a variety of options for their careers. A barber may decide to work in an established shop, or open his own shop. In addition, some barbers decide to become certified instructors and work in a barber school to teach others their craft.
Barbers also can elect to work in a more public career in the spotlight cutting in trade shows competing for prizes or working in the entertainment industry. |
